Ely Green Variorum
We integrated Text and Images to create the Ely Green Digital Variorum, which allows exploration of Green's original autobiographical manuscript alongside two published editions at the University of the South.

A digital variorum of the autobiography of Ely Green, a biracial man who came of age in Tennessee in the early 20th century, enabling side-by-side comparison of his handwritten manuscript and two print editions.
Project Included
Images
Performant hosts the images for this digital edition on our IIIF server using Core Data. The texts can be explored as through hi-res imagery of the handwritten manuscript or as a transcription.
Text
Performant provided assistance in marking up the text in TEI/XML format for use with FairCopy, our tool for reading, transcribing, and encoding text. The client then provided the variorum correspondence data which we included in the edition.

Software Development
For this project, we further developed EditionCrafter, our tool for creating and publishing digital editions, by adding a variorum feature to view pages from multiple texts in the same viewer.
User Experience Design
The ability to look at three texts side by side allows for thoughtful investigation of editorial choices, changes, and omissions.
