Yale Digital Edition of the Works of Samuel Johnson
We provided Software Development and enhanced Search functionality to rebuild the Yale Digital Edition of the Works of Samuel Johnson.
This digital edition makes publicly available the complete, twenty-three volume Yale Edition of the Works of Samuel Johnson in digital form, with faceted and full-text search capabilities.
Project Included
Data
We used CoreData to combine data into single entities which allows users to engage further with texts by searching chronologically, by genre, by subject, by publisher, and more.
Search
We added features to our FairCopy.cloud platform that allow users to do faceted and full text searching.
Text
Starting with the project team’s TEI-XML file, we rebuilt a digital edition with enhanced features, adding browsable tables of contents, footnotes and editorial notes.
Hosting
Performant provides hosting for the Samuel Johnson website. Site maintenance includes server updates, general maintenance, and periodic reviews of external services.
Software Development
We migrated the digital edition from its former platform to our own FairCopy.cloud platform, adding search and display features that benefit not only this project, but all FairCopy.cloud users going forward.
User Experience Design
We refreshed the user experience of the website while maintaining the core functionality of searching and browsing. The website uses the FairCopy.cloud API to power both the search and reading environments while providing a customized look and feel to the Works of Samuel Johnson.
